With Pool Play coming to a close, Game Six had a lot riding on it…for both teams. At stake, a possible number 2, 3 or 4 seed depending on the outcome of this game and the Continental-Yuma game. For the third straight game CNLL was the visitor., but the boys bounced back from two tough weekend losses to close out Pool Play with a 7 – 4 win against a feisty Tucson Sunnyside team.
1st: CNLL got things rolling right off the bat! “Crash” (Christian) turns on one and singles to left to start the game. “Turbo” (Devin) hits bouncer up the middle and reaches safely. “Huck” (Kyle) drives in Crash and Devin. Chandler takes 2-0 lead after 1/2 inning.
In the bottom of the inning, Sunnyside led off with a hard single up the middle. He scored on a homerun by the number three hitter who got just enough of a change-up to tie the game after one. CNLL 2, Sunnyside 2.
2nd: With two outs in the inning, Doc hustled down the line and beat the throw at first. Crash came up to the plate and hit an HR with Doc on base to make it a 4-2 game.
However, Sunnyside would not go away. A hard single led off the bottom half of the inning, followed by a double to the wall scoring the runner from first. Sunnyside added another run to tie. CNLL 4, Sunnyside 4
3rd: Crash shut them down in the third.
4th: We scored one when Crash dashes home when Sunnyside catcher tried to throw out runner at 2nd.
After pitching a great game, J-Dub relieved Crash in the 4th and closed out the inning with two strikeouts.
CNLL 5, Sunnyside 4.
5th: The big bats came out in the 5th. Chris “SI” Williams got it started with a long ball to left to make it 6-4. The next batter, Tyler “Rusty” Emery hit an absolute HR “bomb” to deep center (estimated travel: 258ft) to make it back-to-back homers.
CNLL 7, Sunnyside 4
6th: J-Dub struck out the side in the 6th to record the save.
The CNLL defense was sturdy all night and committed NO ERRORS (sponsor plug). Huck made several unassisted plays at first. Jake makes 'Sportscenter" play moving left and cutting off a ball up the middle and whirling 360 to throw runner out in the 3rd. Behind the plate, Brando “guns down” a runner trying to steal in the 4th. Micah “vacuums” a hard hit ball in the 5th and throws across the diamond to get the runner by a step. The outfield played sharp all night hitting the cutoff and cutting off the alleys. CNLL 7, Sunnyside 4
We’re proud of the boys from bouncing back from two tough weekend losses to close out Pool Play at 4-2 and earning a #2 seed.
